Fibreglass wallpaper is a wall covering made of glass fibre that is painted after hanging. The name covers two types, smooth glass fleece and textured glass fabric, and people usually mean glass fabric when they say it. We install it with our 40 in-house wallpaper hangers, from €16.99 per m² excluding VAT.

Fibreglass wallpaper is a collective name. It is wallpaper with a glass-fibre base, designed to be painted over. In shops and quotes the names get mixed up, which causes confusion.
There are two main forms. Glass fleece is a fleece of loose glass fibres and stays smooth after painting. Glass fabric is woven and keeps a visible texture, such as herringbone or diamond. When someone asks for fibreglass wallpaper, in practice they usually mean glass fabric.
You do not need to become an expert in the finer difference between glass fleece, glass fabric and fibreglass. This page is about choosing for your own wall and what installation costs.
Which fibreglass wallpaper do we use?
We hang Intervos. According to the Intervos price list of 1 August 2026, the glass fleece ranges from 50 grams per m² for the non-pre-painted version up to 190 grams per m² for the heaviest pre-painted type. The glass fabric from the Quality Glass collection weighs 115 to 200 grams per m², and the heavier Design Glass 220 to 250 grams per m². All rolls are 1 metre wide.
We paint with Sigma. For Sigmatex Superlatex Matt, Sigma states scrub class 1 according to NBN EN 13300, opacity class 2 and a gloss level of about 1.9 GU. That matt gloss level keeps the texture of a fabric calm: the more gloss, the more each relief stands out in the light.
Fibreglass wallpaper or renovation fleece: which suits your wall?
Besides the choice between smooth and textured, there is a second consideration: fibreglass or renovation fleece. Renovation fleece is a paintable fleece without glass fibre. It evens out well and is more affordable.

In one home we often combine renovation fleece in the rooms with fibreglass wallpaper in the hallway and on the stairs. If you are torn between the two smooth types, renovation fleece or glass fleece, or between non-woven and fibreglass wallpaper, we will go through it with you room by room.
What does fibreglass wallpaper cost per m²?
Fibreglass wallpaper costs the same with us as glass fleece and glass fabric. The price per m² depends on the total area. The complete package is hanging, filling and one coat of paint in RAL 9010 or 9016, and sanding is always included.

A second coat of paint is a surcharge: €6.99 per m² with your own paint or €8.49 per m² in a RAL colour of your choice. For unpigmented glass fabric Sigma recommends that second coat, so it is an item that should be in the quote from the start.
A worked example: a floor with 120 m² of wall falls in the 100 to 150 m² band. That is 120 × €17.99 = €2,158.80 for the complete package. If old wallpaper has to come off first, that is added, and if the wall is too uneven, a skim coat comes first, from €14.49 per m² including materials.
Which fibreglass or glass fleece wallpaper suits a new build?
In a new build, most people choose renovation fleece rather than fibreglass wallpaper. That has nothing to do with quality but with the balance between price and result: both bridge the hairline shrinkage cracks of a house that is still settling, and renovation fleece is cheaper per m².
Fibreglass wallpaper, also called glass fleece wallpaper, is the better choice in places that take knocks. Think of a hallway, a stairwell or a corridor where bags and bikes pass every day. There the woven backing is stronger than a fleece.
In a new build, a combination therefore often works best: renovation fleece in the living areas and bedrooms, fibreglass wallpaper in the hallway and stairwell. We go through what suits each wall during the on-site survey. That way you do not have to choose one option for the whole house between renovation fleece and glass fleece wallpaper.
Can fibreglass wallpaper still be removed later?
Yes, but it is more work than paper wallpaper. The painted layer repels water, so simply wetting it does not work. We soften the adhesive with a wallpaper steamer or a removal liquid.
Removing renovation fleece and fibreglass wallpaper costs €10.99 per m² with us. Our tradespeople remove 100 m² per day on average. If you want to have fibreglass wallpaper removed, also allow for work on the wall afterwards.
When cutting, sanding and pulling it off, tiny pieces of fibre break off and prick the skin. That is a mechanical irritation, not an allergic reaction, and it only occurs during the work itself. If you are wondering whether fibreglass wallpaper is unhealthy, it is best to go by what manufacturers state about it.
That is no reason not to choose it. It is a reason to choose the type deliberately for each room. A texture you like in the hallway may not be one you want to look at in the living room for years.
How does having fibreglass wallpaper installed work?
The work is done by one of our 40 in-house wallpaper hangers, such as Kai or Illias, who have been hanging wallpaper with us for 5 years. No subcontractors. They belong to a team of 97 tradespeople with their own plasterers and painters. If an uneven wall first needs a skim coat, we plan that ourselves. The process:
Step
What happens
1. Phone consultation and quote
A project manager goes through the rooms and the choice between smooth and textured with you. Within 24 hours you receive a free quote based on a price indication
2. On-site survey once you agree
We measure up and check that the walls are ready for wallpaper
3. Preparing the wall
Sanding, dust removal and priming where needed
4. Hanging
Strips hung tight, and for glass fabric with the pattern running continuously across the seams
5. Filling
The joints at windows and doors, skirting boards and corners
6. Painting and handover
One coat in RAL 9010 or 9016, then we walk through the walls together
How many working days your job takes depends on the number of m² and is stated in the schedule with the final price. The wallpapering work carries a 1-year guarantee. Because we do the cutting, sanding and hanging, you do not come into contact with the fibres.
We work throughout Belgium: Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. We also carry out the on-site survey at your home anywhere in the country. During the survey, our wallpaper hangers check whether the walls are truly ready for wallpaper, because a smooth fleece does not hide a seam or a bump.
Not sure between smooth and textured? Discuss it with a project manager first.
According to the safety data sheet of a glass fleece wallpaper, the product is not classified as hazardous. When working it, for example cutting or removing it, fibres can cause itching and irritation to skin and eyes. On a painted wall that you leave alone, you will not notice any of this.
Can you wallpaper over fibreglass wallpaper?
We usually advise against it. With glass fabric the texture shows through new wallpaper, and an old layer can come loose from the moisture of the new adhesive. During the on-site survey we assess whether removal is the better option.
How often can you paint over fibreglass wallpaper?
Fibreglass wallpaper is made to be painted, also again later. There is no fixed limit, but every coat of paint makes the texture of glass fabric slightly less sharp.
Is fibreglass wallpaper suitable for a new-build home?
Yes. A new-build home still settles during the first years, and a painted wallpaper absorbs small hairline cracks better than paint alone. If the wall is too uneven, a skim coat goes on first.
Why do smooth glass fleece and woven glass fabric cost the same?
Because they sit on one line in our price list: the work and the material class are comparable. Only the number of coats of paint can differ, and that appears as a separate item in the quote.
