Most interior painting is about walls. In having walls painted we explain how we do it, when spraying is better and what is included in the price.
Our painters work with Sigma, because we spot cheap paint straight away: in the short term in the coverage, within a few years in the discolouration. For Sigmatex Superlatex Matt, a matt water-based wall paint, Sigma states the following.
What Sigma states
Value
What it means for you
Scrub resistance
Class 1 according to EN 13300, determined after one month of drying
The wall can be wiped clean, but is only at its strongest after that month
Coverage
Coverage class 2
Very good coverage, often enough in one coat when painting white on white
Yield
8 to 10 m² per litre
Depends on the texture of the substrate
Drying time at 23 °C
Dry after about 1 hour, recoatable after about 4 hours
A second coat can go on the same day, if conditions are right
Gloss level
About 1.9 GU, so truly matt
Small irregularities are less noticeable in raking light
Solvent
Solvent-free, less than 1 gram of VOC per litre
Less paint smell in the home
The paint is included in our m² prices, so you do not have to buy anything yourself or work out how much wall paint per m² you need. Which paint suits where depends on the room; we explain the difference between latex and emulsion paint separately. How long you can still smell paint after painting is also answered separately.

If you go over 250 m² of wall, €1.00 per m² comes off the painting price, and above 400 m² €2.00 per m². We usually charge per m² and not per hour: that way you know in advance what a painter costs.
Paint does not make a wall flatter. Holes, seams and irregularities stay visible after painting, and in raking light sometimes even more so than before. In three situations something else is needed first.
The wall is still damp. Fresh plaster or a new-build wall that is still giving off construction moisture makes the paint stain or adhere poorly. Dry first, then prime.
Does the result depend mainly on the paint? No, the difference lies in the substrate and the order of work. A wall that looks even in the evening can suddenly show roller marks and overlaps in low sunlight.
An experienced painter finishes a wall in one go from corner to corner, so that those overlaps do not appear. If that does not happen, you later see streaks on the wall.
Painting a single wall yourself works fine for most people. For a complete home, a tall stairwell or woodwork that needs lacquering, outsourcing mainly saves time and work you do not have to redo.
What happens when you have your home painted inside?
At Bouwsector België, one of our 25 in-house painters does the work, not a subcontractor. They are part of a team of 97 tradespeople. If plastering or wallpapering has to be done first, we plan that ourselves in the right order, so that the painter only starts once the wall is ready.

We go through the work together. Interior painting carries a 1 year guarantee
Ideally you move large furniture out of the work area yourself beforehand. If a second coat is needed, we allow about 1 day of drying time between coats.
If you mainly want to know how hiring a painter works with us: we have a separate page for that. If the wall first needs to be smooth, we look at which layer of plaster is needed.
We are active throughout Belgium: Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. We also carry out the site survey at your home anywhere in the country. Argi and Chris have been painting with us for 6 years; they do the covering and masking, so you do not need to arrange that.
Want to talk through your painting job with a project manager first?
Yes. We also paint the outside of window frames, doors and facades, but always on request. The price depends on how long ago the last maintenance was, whether there is wood rot and what condition the substrate is in. That is why exterior painting has no fixed price.
Exterior painting carries a 3 year guarantee, compared with 1 year inside. That difference exists because outside the paint is put under greater strain by the weather. So plan the work in the best period for exterior painting. For a facade or high window frames, scaffolding is sometimes needed. We arrange that; it is hired in externally, and the cost is added.
Painting walls costs €12.99 per m² and painting ceilings €13.99 per m², for one coat in RAL 9010 or 9016 and including Sigma paint. A second coat on walls costs €7.99 per m² extra, a colour of your choice €1.50 per m². Prices exclude VAT; for homes over 10 years old that is usually 6% VAT.
Do you charge per hour or per m²?
Usually per m² or per item: painting walls €12.99 per m², an interior door from €139.99. We only use the hourly rate of €47.50 for stand-alone work outside that. That way you know the total in advance instead of afterwards.
What does it cost to have a whole home painted inside?
In our worked example with 180 m² of wall, 70 m² of ceiling, four interior doors with frames and 60 metres of skirting board, that costs from €4,916.86, in RAL 9010, one coat and including paint. A one-off call-out fee of €99.99 is added. Prices exclude VAT.
How many coats of paint are included in the price?
Our painting prices are for one coat in RAL 9010 or 9016. If a second coat is needed, for example with a dark colour or a big colour change, a surcharge applies. We decide that at the site survey.
How much time is there between two coats of paint?
We allow about 1 day of drying time between coats. According to Sigma, Sigmatex Superlatex Matt can be recoated after about 4 hours at 23 °C, but the temperature and humidity in the room determine how fast it really goes.
