A senior-living flat is smaller than a family home, but it is often full: a lifetime of belongings in fewer rooms. The price depends on how full the property is and how much has to go as waste.

The care home or the landlord decides that, and for a care home room it is often within days or weeks. So check that first, and also ask how the room has to be left: just empty, or painted as well.
If it is a rented property, ask the landlord when the tenancy ends and whether floor coverings and curtains must be removed. Then you know which date the clearance has to meet.
What goes with them to the new room?
If your father or mother moves to a care home, only a small part of their belongings will fit. Choose together what goes: a familiar chair, photos, a cabinet full of memories. That makes the new room their own.
What goes with them, you set aside beforehand, and what is set aside, we leave alone. If you are unsure about a cupboard or box, stick a note on it. Then we take away the rest and remove what has to go.
Are you letting strangers into your parents’ home?
That is often the biggest objection, and it is understandable. That is why you decide what happens, and you can be there if you wish.
Our own people do the clearing, not a hired crew from another company: besides 97 of our own tradespeople for wallpapering, plastering and painting, we have four of our own building teams.
And after a death?
If your father or mother has died, the estate plays a part. If you take items before making your choice about the estate, this can count as accepting it outright. So settle the estate first, before you have the house cleared after the death.
If the property then has to be sold, our tradespeople get it ready for sale. You can also come to us for any other house clearance.
