Not a freelancer from a platform, but a permanently employed painter with a fixed price upfront
Rated 4.9 out of 5. ★★★★★4.9 from 215+ Google reviews · 97 in-house tradespeople on permanent contracts · 10 years of experience · 1-year guarantee on interior painting
You hire a painter with everything that goes with the job. He works to our set method, using Sigma paint, and if the wall first needs plastering or wallpapering, we arrange that tradesperson too.
Item
How we arrange it
The tradesperson
An in-house painter on a permanent contract, not a subcontractor
Paint
Sigma, and the paint is included in the price per m²
Coats
The wall painting price covers 1 coat; a 2nd coat is a surcharge
Colour
RAL 9010 or 9016 as standard, a colour of your choice for a surcharge
1 year on interior painting, 3 years on exterior painting
Scaffolding for high work
We arrange it, hired in externally, and the cost is added
What does the painter do during a working day?
Stage
What happens
On arrival
Cover floors, mask skirting boards and window frames, clear the room
Preparation
Check the surface, remove grease and dirt, sand where needed
Priming
Only where the wall is absorbent, chalky or stained
Painting or spraying
One wall at a time in a single pass from corner to corner, so there are no lap marks
Woodwork
Degrease, sand and gloss, in the right order alongside the wall painting
Handover
Masking tape off, then we walk through the work together
It is best if you move large furniture out of the room beforehand. A second coat is mainly needed for a dark colour or a big colour change. We decide that during the site survey, so it is in the quote upfront and not on the invoice afterwards. That way you know in advance whether a second coat is needed and how long wall paint needs to dry before it.
Which jobs can you hire our painters for?
Our painters do all interior painting, and exterior painting on request. For most jobs we have a dedicated page with the method and the price.
Outside, we paint window frames, doors and facades, always on request. We only work out the cost of exterior painting once we have been to take a look. For interior painting, on the other hand, we do work with fixed prices, so you know upfront what the painter will cost.
What does it cost to hire a painter?
For most jobs you pay a fixed price per m² or per item. For small, standalone jobs there is also an hourly and a daily rate.
Way of charging
Price
Painting walls (RAL 9010 or 9016, 1 coat)
€ 12.99 per m²
Priming and painting walls (1 coat)
€ 18.99 per m²
Spraying walls, paint (1 coat)
€ 13.99 per m²
Painting ceilings (1 coat)
€ 13.99 per m²
Painting an interior door (wood)
from € 139.99
Sanding and painting skirting boards
€ 9.99 per metre
Work charged at an hourly rate
€ 47.50 per hour
Daily rate for a painter (small job without materials)
€ 499.99
Prices exclude VAT. For renovating a home over 10 years old, VAT is usually 6%; otherwise it is 21%.
Per m² or per day: which is better value?
With a daily rate you pay for time, with a price per m² you pay for the result. If a job overruns, the bill grows with a daily rate; with a price per m² that risk is ours. The €499.99 daily rate also includes no materials, so you would buy the paint yourself.
Job
Per m², paint included
What usually makes more sense
Painting one bedroom, 35 m²
35 × € 12.99 = € 454.65
Per m², because the paint is included
Painting a whole house, 180 m²
180 × € 12.99 = € 2,338.20
Per m², with a discount above 250 m²
Odd repairs throughout the house
Cannot be measured in m²
Hourly rate € 47.50 or a daily rate
Prices exclude VAT. For renovating a home over 10 years old, VAT is usually 6%; otherwise it is 21%.
On the hourly rate, sometimes. But an hourly rate only means something once you know how many hours a job takes, and whether paint, masking and primer are charged on top. So compare the total for the same job: the same m², the same number of coats, the same colour.
Ask every painter the same questions. Is the paint included, and which paint is it? How many coats are counted? Who primes if the wall is absorbent? And who arranges the plastering or wallpaper if the wall is not ready for painting? With us, the answers are listed line by line in the quote for painting work.
You notice the difference after handover too. If you have a question about the work, you call one company that knows who painted at your home. The same crew works from start to finish, to the same quality standards.
How does hiring a painter work, from request to handover?
You request a quote or arrange a phone consultation. A project manager goes through your job with you at no charge: which rooms, which items, which colour and what condition the surface is in.
Within 24 hours you receive a free quote with a price indication: per room the m² of wall and ceiling, and per piece the doors, frames and metres of skirting board. If you agree to that indication, we schedule the site survey.
We measure up and inspect the walls and woodwork, so the final price matches what really needs doing. During the site survey and wall inspection we record everything, so there are no surprises afterwards.
We always check your walls and woodwork ourselves before the work starts, which sets us apart from companies that quote a figure from a distance. If a wall is absorbent, or old paint is not adhering, you will see it in the quote and not on the day of the job.
Once you agree, we schedule the painter. If plastering or wallpapering has to be done first, the painter only comes once the wall is ready. At handover we walk through the work with you.
We work throughout Belgium, in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. We also carry out the site survey at your home anywhere in the country. Painters such as Argi and Chris have worked here for six years now.
A customer on how our people work:
CustomerGoogle review
★★★★★5 out of 5 stars
Really happy with how everything went! The people were very kind and really did their best to make sure everything turned out exactly as I wanted. The work is neatly done and it feels good that they also pay attention to sustainable solutions.
They were flexible when something unexpected happened and kept me well informed throughout. It was really nice to work with such a team. I would definitely recommend them if you have a job to do!
Do you work with your own painters or with freelancers?
With our own painters on permanent contracts. Bouwsector België has 25 painters, as part of a team of 97 tradespeople. No subcontractor will turn up at your door.
Can you hire a painter for just one day?
For a small job without materials, our price list has a daily rate of €499.99 for a painter, excluding VAT. For most jobs a fixed price per m² or per item is clearer. You will see which approach suits you in the quote.
Do I have to buy the paint myself?
No. Our painters use Sigma paint, and it is included in our prices per m². Only the daily rate for a small job applies without materials.
Can you choose your own colour?
Yes. As standard we paint in RAL 9010 or 9016. A RAL colour of your choice on the walls costs a surcharge of €1.50 per m², excluding VAT. A dark colour sometimes needs a second coat.
Is the quote free?
Yes, the quote is free and so is the phone consultation.
