You can simply paint over renovation fleece: it is made to be painted, and repainted later in another colour. That is why one coat of emulsion is already included in our renovation fleece price from €14.99 per m² excluding VAT. If you want a new colour years later, we paint over the existing coat without replacing the fleece.

Yes. Renovation fleece is a paintable non-woven wallcovering, and it only becomes a finished wall once it has a coat of paint. Unpainted, you can see the seams and the colour of the fleece itself.
That is why we hang and paint in the same job. The package includes one coat in RAL 9010 or 9016. If you choose renovation fleece without painting, it costs €13.49 to €17.49 per m², but the painting still has to be done afterwards.
Prices exclude VAT. For a private home more than 10 years old you will usually pay 6% VAT, otherwise 21%.
With new renovation fleece, the adhesive has to be properly dry first. How long that takes depends on the adhesive, the surface and the temperature in the room; the application times are on the product data sheet. So we schedule the painting ourselves, as part of the same job. For a complete home, hanging, filling and painting renovation fleece takes 3 days in total.
If the renovation fleece has already been painted and you want a different colour, you can do that at any time. You do not need to remove the existing paint. The wall does have to be dust-free, any stains degreased, and loose seams or damage repaired first.

Which paint should you use on renovation fleece?
On renovation fleece you use a water-based wall paint. A matt paint shows small imperfections and seams the least, because it reflects little light. A paint with more sheen is easier to wipe clean, but highlights every imperfection.
We use wall paint from Sigma. Not sure about the difference between emulsion and paint? On renovation fleece it is always emulsion, meaning wall paint.
If you do the work yourself, paint a whole wall in one go rather than just one patch. A spot that has been touched up locally often shows up as a slightly different shade, especially when daylight falls across the wall at an angle.
Does renovation fleece get worse if you repaint it often?
No. As long as the fleece is intact, it keeps doing what it is meant to do. The property that bridges small cracks lies in the fleece itself, not in the paint. A new coat of paint does not change that.
What does change: every coat of paint fills in the slight texture of the fleece a little. After many coats the wall looks a bit fuller. That is not a defect, but it is a reason to choose replacement over yet another coat when there is visible damage.
If the renovation fleece is loose or damaged in places, painting over it will not give a lasting result. Having renovation fleece removed costs €10.99 per m², after which we can hang it again. If you then wonder how many layers of fleece you need, we will discuss that during the site survey.
Not sure whether painting over or replacing is better?
Having renovation fleece painted over: how does it work and what does it cost?
Hanging and painting new renovation fleece is done by our 40 in-house wallpaper hangers in a single job. If existing renovation fleece needs a new colour, our own tradespeople repaint the wall. They belong to a team of 97 tradespeople, so we plan the seam repairs and the painting ourselves.
For painting walls, our price list states €12.99 per m² for one coat in RAL 9010 or 9016. A second coat in white costs €7.99 per m² extra, a RAL colour of your choice €1.50 per m² and a second coat in colour €8.49 per m².
What applies to your wall is set out in the final quote after the site survey. We keep the other rates up to date on our prices page.
In your request, say whether the renovation fleece is new or already painted, which colour you want and whether there are loose seams or damage. A second coat or a RAL surcharge will then already be in the free quote you receive within 24 hours. During the site survey we assess the condition of the renovation fleece: paint over it, repair it first or replace it.
Can you wallpaper over renovation fleece instead of painting it?
Sometimes, but only if the renovation fleece is firmly attached everywhere. The moisture from the new adhesive can soak a loose layer free, and the new wallpaper then comes away with it. That is why we assess the old layer first and, if necessary, advise having it removed.
How long does renovation fleece need to dry before you paint it?
That depends on the adhesive, the surface and the temperature in the room. The application times are on the adhesive’s product data sheet. If you have us do it, we schedule the painting ourselves within the same job.
Can you paint renovation fleece with latex paint?
Yes, with a water-based wall paint, which is what latex usually refers to in Belgium. Preferably choose a matt finish so that seams and small imperfections stand out less. We use wall paint from Sigma.
What do you do if the renovation fleece has loose seams or small cracks?
Repair them first, otherwise you will see them through the new coat of paint. Loose seams are fixed down again. If the renovation fleece is damaged or loose over larger areas, removing it and hanging it again is the better choice.
