Moving a kitchen in Belgium usually costs between €1,500 and €3,900 for pipework, drainage and electrics, on top of the kitchen itself. The drain matters most: it has to fall towards the soil stack, and the further the new position is from it, the more has to be done in the floor.
At Bouwsector België, our four in-house contractor teams move the kitchen with all its pipework, and our plasterers and painters then finish the old and the new kitchen wall at fixed prices, such as plastering ready for painting at €22.99 per m². You will hear your exact price for the pipework after a free consultation.

Fitting comes on top of that. For a standard kitchen it is between €1,000 and €2,500, just as when you have a kitchen installed in the old position.
If the kitchen only shifts to a different wall in the same room, you usually stay at the lower amounts. If it moves to the other side of the house, it is mainly the metres of drain that count: 8 metres of extra drain at €100 to €200 per metre is already €800 to €1,600.
Why does the drain determine where your kitchen can go?
Water and electricity are fairly easy to reroute. Waste water is not: it has to run downhill to the soil stack. The usual guidelines for drainage pipes call for a fall of 5 to 20 mm per metre on a horizontal drain like this.
For a kitchen, installers often choose the upper end of that range, because otherwise grease and food waste stay behind in the pipe. Work it out for your plan: if the new sink is 6 metres from the soil stack, the drain drops 6 cm over that length at 1 cm per metre, on top of the thickness of the pipe itself.
That height has to be found somewhere: under the floor, in the floor or behind the kitchen units.
Situation
Route of the drain
What it means
Crawl space under the kitchen
Under the floor to the soil stack
Usually the simplest route
Concrete floor without a crawl space
In a channel cut into the screed
More breaking out, and the channel has to be closed and levelled again
Short distance to the soil stack
Behind the units, in the plinth space
Only possible if the fall fits over that length
We see that when we measure up. That is why in the consultation we first discuss where the soil stack runs, and only then where the kitchen looks best.
What happens to the walls and the floor when the kitchen moves?
In the old position you are left with a wall with tile remnants and pipe holes, and often a strip without flooring, because the floor was laid up to the units. In the new position, channels are cut for water, drainage and electrics. Both have to be smooth again before the kitchen goes in.
Fill the channels and plaster ready for painting, before the units go in

A worked example using our fixed price for plastering per m²: the old and the new kitchen wall together come to 18 m². Plastering just those two walls costs €413.82, plus a €249.99 small-job surcharge and €99.99 call-out charge: €763.80, or €42.43 per m².
If you include 70 m² of wall in the kitchen and living room, with those 18 m² plastered first, and have everything primed and painted, you pay €413.82 plus €1,329.30 plus €99.99: €1,843.11. The surcharge falls away, and your whole living space is finished in one go.
If the kitchen opens up to the living room, a wall often has to come out. If it is load-bearing, a structural engineer first calculates which beam takes over the load, just as for any wall you have knocked down.
Is moving a kitchen worth the money?
Not always. If the kitchen works well where it is, you save the pipework by renewing it in the same place. If you mainly want a different look, a new kitchen in the same position is often the wisest choice.
It is worth it if the layout of your home improves as a result. Think of a kitchen that moves to the garden side, or a closed kitchen that opens up to the living room. Next to the price of a new kitchen, moving it is then a modest item.
If you are switching to induction anyway, moving is also the moment to cap the gas pipe and have a separate circuit installed. That way the breaking out happens only once.
How do you have your kitchen moved by us?
Request a quote or call us on weekdays between 9:00 and 17:00. Send a floor plan or a sketch showing the current and the new position of the kitchen, and tell us whether there is a crawl space. In a free consultation we discuss the route of the pipes, and then you receive a tailor-made plan and quote.
If you agree, we measure up and check the walls. The final price and the schedule are then fixed, and we start on the day we agree together. You pay 50% on the first working day, once all the materials are on site and we have started, and 50% on handover.
The order is fixed: first the pipework and the electrics, then the plastering, then the kitchen, and finally the floor and the skirting boards. Our four in-house contractor teams of four people each do the structural work, and our 97 in-house tradespeople finish the walls.
If you are also tackling the bathroom, you can have your bathroom renovated in the same schedule. For the whole home we take on the complete renovation as your contractor, with one point of contact. We work throughout Belgium: Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia.
Want to know what moving your kitchen costs, walls included?
On top of the kitchen and its fitting, moving it in Belgium usually costs between €1,500 and €3,900 for pipework, drainage and electrics. If the kitchen stays in the same room, rerouting water and gas usually costs between €710 and €1,050. With us you hear your exact price after a free consultation.
How far can a kitchen be from the drain?
There is no fixed limit. According to the usual guidelines, a horizontal drain needs a fall of 5 to 20 mm per metre; at 6 metres and 1 cm per metre that is already a 6 cm difference in height. Whether that height fits in the floor, the crawl space or behind the units determines how far it can go.
Can a kitchen go anywhere in the house?
Almost anywhere, as long as the drain can run with a fall to the soil stack. With a crawl space that is usually simple; on a concrete floor without a crawl space, a channel has to be cut into the screed. That is why in the consultation we first look at where the soil stack runs.
Does the gas pipe have to move with the kitchen?
If you cook with gas, yes. If you switch to induction, the gas pipe is capped, which usually costs €85 to €350, and a separate circuit for the hob is added at €150 to €350.
Can you leave the floor as it is when the kitchen moves?
Often not entirely. Under the old kitchen there is usually no flooring, because it was laid up to the units. That strip has to be filled in, or you lay a new floor throughout the room.
