We price a sloping wall in a loft as a ceiling. Painting therefore costs €13.99 per m² instead of €12.99, and renovation fleece with one coat of paint €26.49 per m², at a fixed price from our price list.
Which finish suits best depends on the surface: a sloping plasterboard wall needs something different from a wall with ceiling boards or joints that keep coming back.

What does a sloping wall cost per finish?
On a sloping wall, as on a ceiling, you work largely above your head. In the quote a sloping wall is therefore priced at the ceiling rate. Side by side, it looks like this:

Prices exclude VAT, per m². For renovation work on a home over 10 years old, 6% VAT usually applies.
For renovation fleece on a straight wall, the price per m² depends on the total area of the job. The bigger the job, the lower the price, which is why what renovation fleece costs per m² and per room varies. All amounts come from our price list.
What does a loft with two sloping walls cost?
A worked example: a loft with two sloping walls of 10 m² each, 20 m² in total. Per finish, that costs:
Prices exclude VAT. For renovation work on a home over 10 years old, 6% VAT usually applies.
To this you add the one-off call-out fee of €99.99, plus the normal prices for the straight walls and the ceiling of the loft. If the total job is smaller than 50 m², the small-job surcharge of €249.99 is added.
If you include the loft in a job of 50 m² or more, for example together with a new dormer, that surcharge falls away. You can make your own estimate with the M2 Calculator.
Which finish suits your sloping wall?
That depends on what the wall is made of and what it looks like:
- Plasterboard with joints. A sloping plasterboard wall must first be flat and sealed. When finishing plasterboard you choose between a thin skim coat, plastering or renovation fleece.
- Joints or hairline cracks that keep returning. Renovation fleece bridges them and is then painted. Renovation fleece on plasterboard works the same way.
- Ceiling boards or loft boards. We paint or spray these, but having loft boards painted or sprayed is slightly different from a normal ceiling.
- A wall that is already flat and smooth. Then painting or spraying is enough, with a primer underneath if needed.
Why does a sloping wall cost more than a straight wall?
Because it counts as a ceiling, and you notice that most with renovation fleece. Painting costs €1.00 per m² more than on a straight wall. Renovation fleece with paint costs €26.49 per m² on a sloping wall, against €14.99 to €18.99 per m² on a straight wall.
Anyone who budgets a loft conversion using only the wall price will end up lower than the quote. So calculate the sloping surfaces separately. At the site survey we measure them separately, so the quote shows exactly which m² are charged at the ceiling rate.

Who finishes your loft, and how does it work?
Our own tradespeople do the finishing: 40 wallpaper hangers, 32 plasterers and 25 painters on permanent contracts. Before they start painting, the painters cover the floor and mask window frames, doors and skirting boards.
When you make your request, give us the m² of the sloping walls separately, and what they are made of: plasterboard, ceiling boards or loft boards, for example after insulating the roof. They are then already priced at the ceiling rate in the free quote you receive within 24 hours. The site survey takes half an hour.
If the loft is on the schedule, you can have the ceiling painted or wallpapered with renovation fleece in the same job.
